Description+
Olibanum Frankincense - Luban Dhakar
Olibanum frankincense is also known as Luban Dhakar or Boswellia. The frankincense tree thrives in India and has been known for centuries for its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. For example, in Asia, frankincense resin has been used successfully for centuries to treat chronic arthritis and chronic bronchitis. The name Luban means "purity" in Arabic, which likely refers not only to the quality of the resin but also to its purifying effect.
Extraction of frankincense resin
The resin of the frankincense tree is obtained by making deep incisions in the wood or bark of the tree. A whitish-milky resin flows out, which solidifies into golden-yellow "tears." When heated, the air-dried gum resin releases a spicy-balsamic fragrance.
Olibanum frankincense in Islam
Luban is often used in places of worship and on Islamic holidays. However, it has no ritual function and is not a mandatory part of prayers or festivities. Its use is purely pragmatic, serving as a pleasant and refined fragrance, promoting purity, and enhancing focus and concentration, qualities attributed to incense.
